An Australian blog published a list of peer-reviewed articles about COVID-19 vaccine side effects, arguing that these articles prove the vaccines are dangerous. Many of the articles on the list do not establish that a vaccine caused an adverse event and those that do are case reports about rare side effects in a single patient. Some of the studies are repeated on the list while others clearly state that COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective. The blog post has been circulating on social media in the U.S. over the last week.

Counter misinformation on the safety and efficacy of vaccines by emphasizing the amount of time and research that goes into the development process. Messaging may emphasize that the COVID-19 vaccine is grounded in decades of scientific research as well as data gathered from thousands of volunteers who participated in clinical trials all over the world. Explaining that over 4 billion people have been safely and fully vaccinated—half the world’s population—is also recommended. Messaging may also discuss the fact that systems for monitoring potential adverse effects of vaccination often allow anyone to submit a report, and these reports are not verified.
