Several popular social media posts share a screenshot of a Mayo Clinic webpage for hydroxychloroquine, insinuating that the institution “admitted” the drug is an effective treatment for COVID-19.
Responding to each piece of misinformation may detract from key talking points. The Mayo Clinic, like other reputable health systems, does not recommend hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19. The screenshot of the website being circulated was last updated in June 2020 and simply noted that some health care providers at the time were using the anti-parasitic drug.
