An account that has previously spread vaccine misinformation in the past is recirculating the claim that children who received the diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTaP) vaccine have a higher mortality rate than unvaccinated children. The post includes a video featuring a prominent vaccine opponent claiming that children who received the vaccine were more likely to die from malaria and dysentery.
The sources of this misinformation have large platforms, increasing the risk. Debunking messaging may explain that a comprehensive analysis of previous studies found no link between increased mortality and any vaccine, including the DTaP vaccine. The Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety concluded that there was sufficient evidence to reject the claim that the vaccine increased mortality. The DTaP vaccine has saved millions of children from these deadly and debilitating diseases.
