Video Claims Moderna Vaccine Ingredient SM-102 Causes Cancer and Infertility

A video that has been widely shared on social media claims that the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine contains an ingredient that can cause cancer, infertility, or fetal injury. The video misrepresents the ingredient in question, SM-102, by showing a safety data sheet for a version of SM-102 that contains 90 percent chloroform intended for research only, not for human or veterinary use. The warnings stated in the video are for chloroform, not SM-102. 

The SM-102 in the Moderna vaccine contains no chloroform and is simply a lipid—a fatty molecule that does not dissolve in water—that shields the vaccine as it delivers instructions to the cell.
