A recent study investigated the effect of COVID-19 vaccination on autoimmune skin conditions. The study, which assessed around 200 patients, found a potential correlation with the emergence of several skin conditions in the weeks after vaccination. Vaccine opponents are circulating graphic images from the study as evidence of COVID-19 vaccines’ dangers.
Recommendation: Although the study has not yet been widely circulated in anti-vaccine media, the graphic nature of the images have the potential to incite vaccine hesitancy. Debunking messaging may emphasize that the small study did not find evidence that COVID-19 vaccines caused any of the skin conditions, only that the conditions were diagnosed after vaccination. Moreover, the researchers concluded that, due to the extreme rareness of these conditions and the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination, “there is no reason to avoid vaccination.” Fact Checking Source(s): GoodRx
